Red Hat Society
This is a loosely organized, dis-organized group of women who believe that fun and a touch of silliness make everything easier. The concept of the Society came from a poem entitled “Warning” by Jenny Joseph and it goes like this:
When I am an old woman I shall war purple
With a Red Hat which doesn’t go and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railing
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens………
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
Our chapter here at Americana Cove is called the RED HOT CHILIES! There are no official rules, but strongly suggest wearing a RED HAT with PURPLE ENSEMBLE to meetings to keep the message alive; birthday celebrants are encouraged to wear a Purple Hat and Red attire. Come and join us for fun and silliness and a celbration of life, no matter what stage you are at.
